Have you ever left a gate open or a latch not hooked tight? When that happens and your animals get out, you can only blame yourself and promise to not let it happen again. But, when Mother Nature opens the gate, you have to chalk it up to “a bad run of luck.” A bad run of luck always seems to come at a bad time like late at night during a winter storm when it’s 10 below.
A phone call that informs you that cattle are loose on the road is never welcome. When it comes late at night in the middle of a winter storm, it’s more
like “what did I do to deserve this?” You know they can’t be your cows, but when you learn the cows are tearing up bales of hay on the school teacher’s archery range, you agree to come take a look. A comedy of errors occurs when Mother Nature throws a few curves into the winter night rescue operation. An all night and all the next day operation takes place that can only be chalked up to a “bad run of luck.”
